Panasonic Announces Panaboard

Electronic Whiteboard Transforms a PC Into an Interactive Presentation Tool (September 17, 2001)
Panasonic introduced the KX-BP800 Interactive Panaboard, a combination electronic and interactive whiteboard with an array of functions designed to enhance organization-wide communication.

The KX-BP800 is a cost-effective, global teleconferencing solution that enables ideas to be shared at meetings, seminars and lectures. Presentations and meeting notes can be simultaneously reproduced at remote locations when used with standard conferencing software such as Microsoft NetMeeting.

With the Interactive Panaboard, all meeting participants can get clear meeting notes regardless of their location. Handwritten notes can be captured and saved on the presenters' PC. The KX-BP800 also functions as an electronic print board, and is equipped with an integrated printer that uses recycled or standard letter-size paper.

In addition, the Panaboard features a CCD flat-scan-type scanning system.

Features and Benefits Overview

-- Remote PC operation

-- Pointing technology

-- Electronic Print Board with plain paper printer

-- Meeting notes can be saved to computer files.

-- Colorful electronic pens

-- Optional stand or wall-mounting kit available

-- High-quality projector screen

The KX-BP800 is equipped with utility software that allows spreadsheets and documents to be quickly opened in existing software applications for use in meetings.

The electronic whiteboard features remote PC operation via an electronic pen, which is used in the same way as a computer mouse and allows end users to control computer applications, including Windows, and other multimedia materials projected onto the board.

The Panaboard features a high-quality white screen that displays crisp data and video images without light reflections and shadows. With its built-in integrated printer, the KX-BP800 features easy printing with multiple copies, allowing materials to be distributed to an audience in seconds. With an optional interface kit, end users can also print their PC data on the Panaboard's printer.

The whiteboard can be wall-mounted or used with a stand; both items are optional.

Electronic color markers are included for writing notes over a projected image on the KX-BP800's 35.4" x 55.1" screen to focus on important words and emphasize critical issues. The markers come in black, red and blue for the print board and black, red, blue and green for interactive purposes.

The KX-BP800's pointing system uses ultrasonic and infrared technology to track the motion of the electronic pen and determine what mode it is in; i.e., mouse, electronic eraser, etc. The pointing system also tracks color, enabling the Panaboard to differentiate among black, green, blue and red.

The electronic pen color can also be easily changed through software by selecting any color from within the color palette.

The KX-BP800 is ideal for use in a variety of settings, from meeting rooms to locker rooms and courtrooms. Meeting and conference rooms used for strategic planning, or for training and instructional purposes, are ideal settings for the KX-BP800. Sports teams can make excellent use of the Interactive Panaboard before, during and after games for tactical analysis.

Another venue in which the KX-BP800 can serve as an effective communication tool is the courtroom. The base model KX-BP800 carries an MSRP(1) of $2799.

Eight models compose the Panaboard line, offering a range of sizes to meet the varying needs of today's office environments. In addition to the KX-BP800, Panasonic markets the KX-BP430, KX-BP530, KX-BP535, KX-BP630 and KX-BP635 each of which has two writing panels, the KX-BP730 and KX-BP735, with continuous four-screen capability.

The KX-BP800 is marketed in the United States by Panasonic Digital Imaging Solutions Company (PDIS), a business unit of Matsushita Electric Corporation of America (MECA), which markets a broad line of computer peripherals and office system products.

Products available include scanners, electronic whiteboards, Portable CD-ROM and rewritable drives, color laser printers, impact printers, and DVD drives. Headquartered in Secaucus, NJ, MECA is the principal North American subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (MEI) (NYSE:MC) of Osaka, Japan.
