Pace Extends Digital Broadband Range With 'Entry Level' STBSub-$100 IP set-top box will drive widescale deployments (September 10, 2004)
Pace Micro Technology has today revealed its first sub-$100 IP-based set-top box targeted at broadband operators and telcos with plans for high-volume interactive TV service deployments. The DB210 draws on Pace's extensive experience in IP-based digital set-top box technology, to create an advanced but cost-effective set-top box solution that will enable operators to deliver on-demand broadcast television and interactive services.
To develop the DB210, Pace engineers have drawn on the Company's extensive experience in IP-based set-top box deployments and architectures. The DB210 hardware and software is highly optimised and utilises single chip silicon, as well as efficient use of flash and memory. As a result the DB210 can be used to provide best in class video and TV-specific graphics in a stylish and contemporary box casing. The DB210 is also fully compatible with other products in the Pace IP range so that operators can develop and scale their set-top box strategy as a service grows.
Mike Tometzki, Head of Product Management at Pace comments: "The DB210 is a critical step forward in IP set-top box technology. It will lower the cost of service deployments and enable operators to reach more customers without dramatic increases to their investment costs. Not only that, as the DB210 is based on proven Pace software, speed to market is increased as significantly less integration and testing is required."
The DB210 will be available for commercial deployment in early 2005.
