Pa. welfare aide quits over role at journalPa. welfare adviser quits after questions are raised about his role in conservative journal
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ' A top adviser in Pennsylvania's Department of Public Welfare has quit rather than give up his outside job as editor of a conservative journal.
Robert Patterson resigned after the administration of Republican Gov. Tom Corbett refused his request to continue moonlighting as editor of the publication.
The Illinois-based journal is called The Family in America. In it, Patterson has expressed his views on a wide variety of topics. They include his dislike for social programs that grew out of the 1960s' War on Poverty and his opinion that the ideal role for women is to be married and raising children at home.
Welfare agency spokeswoman Carey Miller says the journal does not reflect the views of the Corbett administration.
The Philadelphia Inquirer first reported the resignation.
