PITTSBURGH (AP) ' The parents of a gunman slain by police after he killed one person and wounded six others at a Pittsburgh psychiatric hospital are apologizing to the victims' families, saying they share their grief.
Larry and Susan Shick tell The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/w0g9vB ) in an email that they've "been cooperating with the authorities investigating this terrible event." The Shicks say they "share the grief and pain of the victims and their families, and we hope that they, and the press, will respect our grief, pain, and privacy."
Investigators have been trying to determine a motive for 30-year-old John Shick.
Authorities say Shick had mental illness and perhaps fantasies that he had physical ailments before the March 8 shootings at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.
