Pa. House begins debate on bill to impose fees, new regulations on natural gas drilling By The Associated Press

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) ' The Pennsylvania House of Representatives is taking up a bill that would impose a fee on natural gas drilling, and the late-night floor session could send the measure to Gov. Tom Corbett.

The House debate Tuesday night came hours after the state Senate approved the measure, 31 to 19.

The bill would expand regulations for the booming industry and give local governments the power to decide if an impact fee would be levied.

Opponents call it a giveaway to energy companies and say its environmental provisions are too weak.
