PROMAX&BDA Offers Daily Doses Of Design Insight

Seminars deliver education and inspiration for global design community (June 15, 2004)

With topics ranging from the technical specifics of designing in HighDef to the creative influences of urban street culture, this year's PROMAX&BDA conference, slated for June 23-25 at New York's Hilton Hotel and Towers, continues to offer the only educational and inspirational event specifically created for marketing, promotion and design professionals working in the electronic media industries. BDA Board of Governors' chairperson and PROMAX vice chair Anne White (principal at Los Angeles-based design firm TAG), and BDA vice chairman Steve Kazanjian (creative director at mOcean) are committed to providing perspective on the challenges facing the design community and insight into the trends that influence its work at this annual event attended by the top creative professionals from around the world.

Luminary designers from all areas of the broadcast entertainment marketing community will be sharing their knowledge through seminars, case studies and very personal addresses. One highlight is a dialogue with Stephen O. Frankfurt, who's credits include the main title for the film To Kill a Mockingbird, design and marketing campaigns for Rosemary's Baby, The Who's Tommy, Alien and pop culture lexicon such as "Excedrin Headache" and "Betcha Can't Eat Just One".

Said White, in reviewing the value of this year's seminars, "New technologies are constantly leading the evolution of our industry. Whether its Tivo, HD broadcasting, interactive TV, or the latest After Effects plug-ins, it impacts and changes the way designers work, and in turn, effects the entire creative concept and the team that executes it, from the shooters and editors all the way through to the promotion and marketing execs. This conference offers timely and informative seminars that bring new, exciting and influential design issues to the forefront."

9a.m.  "Not Teflon: MTV Design & Promos" presented by Jeff Keyton, senior vice president of on air design and off air creative for MTV Networks, reviews the evolution of MTV's on air style and its global influence on more than just a generation.

"HDTV: This Revolution Will Be Televised" presented by Greg Moyer, co-executive in charge at VOOM HD Originals, demonstrates tomorrow's HD designs today.

11:00a.m. "Designers on the State of Design" presented by TAG's president Tom Connor and creative director Jim Kealy, who share, via a cross-section of the world's working designers, the trends, inspirations and insights that are driving some of the best design around the globe.

12:00p.m. "Big Ideas: Programming, Marketing and Designing for HD"
presented by Click 3x's president Peter Corbett and creative director Iain Greenway.

2p.m.  "Business of Design" Danixa Diaz, 3 Ring Circus; Frances Hawkings of Playa & Associates; David Snapp, Sr. VP, Hallmark Channel; Kevin Aratari, Mng. Dir., mOcean reveal the results of a new study of network executives and design firm principals and their attitudes towards the best working models for how designers and TV clients can profit and work together.
