PMC MB1 XBD Active System Install at U.K. Studio Metropolis'WOODY' GETS AURAL DELIGHTS (August 27, 2001)
Three active MB1 loudspeakers provide center and rear channel monitoring, while two MB1 XBD loudspeakers provide left, right, and "sub 0.1" channel monitoring. As with their other three PMC active systems, Metropolis opted for the "stacked" version of the MB1 XBD, which features an additional 12-inch radial woofer. Metropolis was able to dispense with a separate subwoofer, instead of relying on the ultra-low, ultra-tight bass response of the MB1 XBDs, which out-performs any sub-bass system available. As is the case with all PMC active systems, world-class Bryston amplifiers fed by super-clean Bryston crossovers power the individual drivers for matchless monitoring.
Metropolis Group's technical director John Goldstraw, instrumental in the design of the room, knew from experience that there could be only one choice when it came to monitoring. The reputation and exacting standards of the facility simply would not allow anything less than PMC. Twig (a.k.a. Martin Granville-Twig) and Julian Lowe will helm the new facility. When pressed for comment, Lowe injected a little French into his otherwise very English response, "They're @!#$ great! ...spot on!"
Woody's PMC Compliment:
1 Pair MB1 XBD Active monitors, Stacked (Main Left Right) 1 Unit MB1 Active (Vertical) (Centre Channel) on MB1 34" Studio Stand 1 Pair MB1 (Rear Channel) on MB1 34" Studio Stands All channels powered by Bryston power amplifiers and crossovers, all of which are mounted externally to the main units and wired using only the highest grade of OFC Audiophile quality grade cable.
