PESA to Show Cheetah and 3500PRO Upgrades at NAB

Cheetah V5 and 3500PRO V2.0 enhances line of routers and switchers (February 17, 2005)

PESA Switching Systems will unveil new versions of their Cheetah V5 transmitter and receiver modules and a new feature set for their 3500PRO V2.0. The company will also highlight their existing line of routers and switchers.

New Products at NAB2005:

Cheetah V5 - RGBHV Over Single Coax Cable
New for NAB2005 is the Cheetah V5 for coax - a family of video transmitter and receiver modules used to distribute high-resolution computer video and audio signals over a single coax cable. The Cheetah V5 paired with the Cheetah HD Multi-Rate Routing Switcher creates a highly efficient RGBHV + Stereo Audio system, eliminating the need for large amounts of rackspace as well as the need for multiple runs of coax cable. Where five rackframes had been required in the past, the Cheetah solution requires only one. In large systems where five coax cables were used, the Cheetah now requires only one. And since the Cheetah V5 actually passes RGBHV over a high definition serial digital path at 1.485-Gb/s data rates, users are assured of a future-proof router system that can be used with SDI and HD-SDI sources as well as wideband signals in the same frame. As SDI and HD-SDI equipment becomes more widely accepted in the Pro A/V markets, the users investment in the Cheetah is protected. The Cheetah V5 can pass RGBHV down a single coax up to 100 meters. The system is compatible with all existing PESA control systems and control panels, or it can easily be integrated with third-party control systems such as AMX or Crestron.

New Feature Set for PESAs 3500PRO V2.0
New for NAB2005, the PESA 3500PRO V2.0 now expands its set of control panel and configuration options. The additional control panels supported include the RCP-JS and RCP-GPI for joystick or GPI applications, the RCP-EXP for multipanel source or destination expansion, and the low-cost RCP-MP32D for up to 128 multiprogrammable functions in 1RU. For networking, the 3500PRO V2 now includes compatibility with PESAs ClikControl Web browser interface and offers a full range of router diagnostic features. The 3500PRO V2 offers a cost-effective controller while providing the flexibility to meet any growing controller requirements in the future. The controller takes advantage of an open architecture by utilizing a user-friendly Microsoft Windows-based platform. The feature set of the 3500PRO controller includes specific functionality to serve some of the most demanding power users, such as truck and live venue applications. The controller card can be installed inside many PESA routing mainframes, and can also be supplied in a single- or dual-controller chassis.

Established Products on Display at NAB2005:

Premiere Routing Switcher
The newest routing switcher in the PESA lineup is a small expandable system available in matrix sizes based on 8x4, 12x8, 16x8, and 16x16. Premieres 500MHz bandwidth is perfect for multimedia applications in corporate, government, sports, entertainment, and other facilities requiring high-resolution graphics. Premiere can handle a variety of signal types including composite, Y/C, RGB, RGsB, RGBHV, and stereo audio. (Future releases will include SDI, HD-SDI, and AES/EBU.) Included in Premiere are RS232, USB, Ethernet, and PESA PRC connectivity, along with PESA Windows set-up software and a local control panel. In addition, the system is easily networked with auto-sensing configurations and can be controlled remotely on an IP network from anywhere in the world.

MCLite Master Control Switcher
The MCLite is PESAs compact, low-cost, multichannel SD master control switcher available with a wide range of processor and control panel options. Multichannel, multiformat, and centralcasting operations benefit from the modular nature of the MCLite, allowing each channel to be fitted with just the appropriate amount of processing power. Multiple processors and control panels can be arranged in any combination, with up to eight channels being controlled from one or more control panels or from station automation. The increasing list of automation companies now supporting the MCLite include Harris, Sundance, Crispin, OmniBus, Pebble Beach, Ibis, and others.

The base MCLite system includes a full 10-bit mixer with embedded audio, one downstream keyer, one logo keyer, and an automation interface. Featured at NAB2005 will be an updated control panel with relegendable LCD buttons and the DVE squeezeback option.

Cheetah Multi-Format Router for Fiber and Signal Conversion
PESAs full-featured Cheetah digital routing switcher offers the power to handle SDI and HD-SDI, analog, and AES audio signals all within any of the five frame sizes available. Ideal for broadcasters, post-production facilities, satellite service providers, and telecom facilities, the flexible Cheetah offers DAC (10-bit SDI to analog conversion), HD to SD downconversion capability via optional output cards, and/or dual outputs for HD, SD, or analog video. Optional Fiber input and output cards supporting either singlemode or multimode are also available for maximum flexibility. Cheetah standard frame sizes are offered to accommodate a wide range of requirements: 64x64 in a 7-RU frame, 128x128 in 10 RU, 256x256 in18 RU, 512x512 in 41RU, and the 448X flexi-frame for 448x256 or 320x384.

TDM3000 Audio Router
The PESA TDM3000 is the perfect solution for large-scale and mixed-format digital and analog audio routing needs. Although similar in function to a traditional crosspoint router, the TDM3000 instead uses a high-speed TDM/DSP addressing engine as its crosspoint routing core and is I/O format independent. I/O modules are available for analog audio, AES/EBU audio (synchronous and asynchronous), time code, and machine control, and can all exist within the same frame.

Bobcat Audio/Video Routing Switcher
The PESA Bobcat audio/video routing switcher combines high performance, signal versatility, and control flexibility in a compact 1-RU package. The 250MHz analog video supports the most demanding HDTV and graphics distribution applications. The Bobcat can also route 270MB/s serial digital video with reclocking.

Cougar Compact Router
The PESA Cougar provides a 32x32 solution for mobile or studio use. This compact router requires only 3 RU, and includes analog and digital models. Our 300-MHz wideband video model is recommended for computer graphics. RGBHV systems require both video and sync matrices.

Cougar Combo
The Cougar Combo is a 4-RU space-saving solution for midsize routing needs. It provides a cost-effective alternative to separate video and audio frames. This 32x32 powerhouse is available in analog video, two-channel analog audio, SDI, and dual AES audio configurations.

Jaguar Family of Routing Switchers
The PESA Jaguar family of routing switchers is available in analog audio, analog video, digital video, and digital audio versions. Each 64x64 matrix offers high crosspoint density. Matrix sizes are available from 32x32 up to 1024x1024 and all use the same TDM core module. Frame sizes are available in 4-RU increments up to 24 RU and can be cascaded to form large, multi-format matrices. I/O modules can be mixed and matched within the same frame, eliminating the need for separate frames for each format type. This results in rack space savings of up to 50% as compared to traditional crosspoint routers. The compact chassis design offers single or dual internal controllers and an internal power supply.

Tiger Family of Routing Switchers
The PESA Tiger family of video and audio routing switchers is engineered to meet the needs of almost any application. Standard digital and analog cards can be installed in the same frame in increments of eight inputs and 16 outputs, making expansion very affordable. The Tiger also permits a mixture of digital and analog matrices in the same chassis, providing maximum flexibility in system configuration.
