Onion Skin Options in Flipboom

Toon Boom's easy animation for kids By Ko Maruyama
In traditional "paper" cartoon animation, frames of the animation sequence were drawn on translucent paper-like medium over a light source.  This way, the animator could see several frames of the sequence at once.  Because the paper was thin, like an onionskin, the procedure of looking at multiple frames through layers of this paper came to be known as "onion skinning".  In digital animation, some software offers the features of onion skinning.  Flipboom does too.

Flipboom is a really easy to use little software that is the perfect addition to your student's computer (or your own).  It's really about animating doodles - and as you start to animate those doodles, you start to explore the tools that are included in this sub-$30 application.

To get the full use of the software, you'll probably want to invest in a Wacom tablet which will give you more control over your illustrations.   The Wacom Bamboo or Bamboo Fun might be great starter tablets to accompany this animation software.

If you're a student, you might need a little help getting started - so I've started making a few short tutorials for a fellow teacher.
