OmniBus and Grass Valley Pair Automation and Server Solution

Provide integration between K2 Media Server and Media Client to G3 Control automation architecture (September 15, 2005)

OmniBus Systems and Thomson today announced that the new Grass Valley K2 Media Server and Media Client is the first system to provide a direct interface to OmniBus Systems' G3 Control automation architecture that was showcased at IBC2005. Engineered to include a native G3 driver, the K2 Media Server is a scalable and competitively priced solution that will enable broadcasters to take full advantage of the flexible G3 architecture with room for simple, cost-effective server and automation expansion.

"We're very excited about the close integration of Grass Valley's K2 Media Server system and OmniBus' automation, a combination that promises to be one of the most powerful broadcast solutions available today," said Ian Fletcher, CTO at OmniBus Systems. "The link between automation and server systems is critical to getting the most out of both systems, and the K2-based solution will enable facilities of all sizes to implement state-of-the-art broadcast technologies for more streamlined and efficient operations."

"OmniBus Systems and Grass Valley share a strong history in providing highly integrated solutions for the broadcast industry, and the development of the K2 server's native G3 Control driver is a natural result of the companies' work together at installations all over the world," said Mike Cronk, vice president and general manager for servers and digital news production for the Grass Valley business within Thomson. "We took the initiative to create the G3 driver because we like OmniBus' architectural approach, the flexible user interface, and an automation architecture that offers a unique combination of functionality, flexibility, and ease of use. We believe this product pairing will offer features that no other solution can provide."

OmniBus Systems' G3 Control Product Solution offers unprecedented levels of flexibility in the broadcast environment, enabling the management of devices in areas such as routing, machine control, signal processing, and device control. Tight integration of OmniBus' automation with the new Grass Valley K2 server allows operators to realize key benefits including improved clip access and use, as well as greater overall media asset management functionality. Through its distributed network model, the OmniBus G3 Desktop application gives multiple operators access to devices -- including the Grass Valley K2 Media Server -- and desktop components via a common user interface tailored to deliver just the controls required by each operator's job.

About The Grass Valley K2 Server
The Grass Valley K2 system supports IT-centric, file-based playout and distribution workflows, simplifies installation and operation, and provides new levels of network control -- all at significantly reduced costs. With a simplified graphical user interface, the K2 system is based on the highly efficient iSCSI (Internet SCSI) networking protocol, which delivers high throughput and SAN performance over standard Ethernet connections. Using Grass Valley's patent-pending optimization techniques, the system provides deterministic bandwidth and availability for critical applications such as editing and playout.
