Olympus Intros New Cameras

Camedia models offer 3 megapixel resolutions By Dave Nagel
Olympus has introduced two new digital cameras, both scheduled to ship in June. These include the new C-720 Ultra Zoom and the D-550 Zoom. Both offer 3 megapixels of resolution but vary widely in features.

Based on the C-700 Ultra Zoom, the C-720 is a point and shoot model with a few higher-end features. The C-720 features an all-glass (with aspherical elements) 8x optical ultra-zoom lens (24x total zoom), a shutter speed of 1/1000 second (up to 8 seconds) and several manual settings with controls for aperture priority, shutter priority and full manual operation.

The C-720 Ultra Zoom will be available June and will include an Auto-Connect USB cable, Video Out cable, carrying strap, lens cap with retainer cord, 2 LB-01 CR-V3 Lithium batteries, a 16 MB SmartMedia card and Olympus Camedia Master Software 4.0. It will sell for $599.

The D-550, a more consumer-oriented model, offers a 3 megapixel resolution, 2.8x optical zoom (10x total), five scene program modes and an improved menu navigation system. The D-550 will be available in June for $399. It comes with a 16 MB SmartMedia card, USB cable, video cable, carrying strap, 4 AA alkaline batteries and Camedia Master 4.0 software.
