Old Jewel Launches Painter's Picker 1.1Latest version gains interface enhancements, new functions
Painter's Picker installs as an extension to the default color picker in Mac OS X (without replacing the original). It includes an RYB color wheel, as well as an RGB wheel, and can produce various color combinations, such as complementary, split complementary, etc. It functions as an optional wheel in all applications that can access the system picker. (See our review here for a list of tested applications.)
The new version offers a redesigned interface with repositioned controls, as well as a new contextual menu for accessing (and copying) additional information about a color, such as its CMYK value, its hexadecimal value, nearest Web-safe colors and other attributes. It also includes the ability to switch to the nearest color value in a different color space and copy either RGB, HSL or CMYK values.
Other new features include the ability to drag directly from the "color well" or swatch view; support for using the scroll wheel on either a keyboard or mouse to adjust values; the addition of a button to expand the interface from a small view to a medium view; and the inclusion of a a resizable color wheel in miniature view. It also includes minor bug fixes, including a font menu issue with Panther and an incompatibility with OmniGraffle.
Painter's Picker is available now as a free update for current users. The full version runs $13.85 (shareware). For more information, visit http://www.oldjewelsoftware.com.
