Oink and Barkley Produce Blue Bunny Campaign

Oink Ink Radio and Barkley Evergreen & Partners produce ice cream campaign across three mediums (July 01, 2005)

Oink Ink Radio, a bicoastal production company specializing in award winning radio, embarked on a month-long cumulative project with advertising agency Barkley Evergreen & Partners (BE&P) for Blue Bunny Ice Cream. The result: an impressive seven radio spots, eight television commercials and numerous internet videos including ten ?outtakes and several create-it-yourself interactive e-cards.

Oink Ink Radios Dan Price, who produced for the company, comments, ?Were known mainly for our work in radio, and to have an agency such as BE&P approach us to not only help with their radio spots but also with their television, and then internet, was a real honor.

Steve Spencer, group creative director for BE&P explains his decision to use Oink Ink: ?When we first had the concept, Dan was the first guy to pop into my head. It made total sense to involve Oink and I know as a team and an agency we are all glad we did. The spots look great, but the cool thing is they sound even better. We have gotten nothing but positive feedback and we owe that all to Oink.

Just as impressive was the meticulous planning the project required. Casting was held in multiple cities including Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Toronto. In total over eight hundred actors auditioned for eight parts. The spots were then produced on both coasts both at Oinks Los Angeles and New York facilities. ISDN sessions were regularly held between both and to Kansas City, Mo., where BE&P is located.

The television spots feature still, one-angle shots of Blue Bunny ice cream products with boom mikes overhead. In the television and radio commercials the ice cream characters, full of personality, speak to the viewers about what its like to be different varieties of ice cream. The internet videos and additional television commercials feature bloopers of the ice cream ?stars between ?takes as they flubbed lines and generally messed up. The Web site also features interactive e-cards in which users can direct their own Blue Bunny clip.

Spencer continues, ?[Oink] went the extra mile to get us all the options. I cant wait to see where these end up. But wherever it is, I know they will be great.
