Ohio prepares to execute 1st inmate in 6 monthsOhio prepares to execute condemned killer in what would be Ohio's 1st execution in 6 months
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ' Ohio is preparing to execute condemned killer Mark Wiles for fatally stabbing the 15-year-old son of his former employers during a burglary at the family's northeastern Ohio farmhouse in 1985.
The execution scheduled for Wednesday would end an unofficial six-month moratorium on the death penalty while the state and a federal judge wrangled over Ohio's lethal injection procedures.
The 49-year-old Wiles, who dropped his final appeal last week, told the Ohio Parole Board he wasn't sure he deserved mercy but requested clemency because he had to.
Both the parole board and Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sihk) denied Wiles' request.
Records show Wiles surprised Mark Klima (KLEE'-muh) during a burglary and stabbed him repeatedly with a kitchen knife until he stopped moving.
