Officials: US Rep. Rivera won't face Fla. chargesOfficials: Florida Congressman David Rivera won't face state charges over financial questions
MIAMI (AP) ' Law enforcement officials say Congressman David Rivera won't be charged with a state crime after a year-long investigation of his finances.
A law enforcement official said Wednesday no charges would be filed. The official said convoluted state laws made it difficult to prove a crime had been committed and a two-year statute of limitations had expired on some potential charges. The official requested anonymity because he isn't authorized to discuss the case.
Rivera still faces a federal probe.
A state investigation said Rivera as a state representative sought to hide a $1 million contract with a Florida gambling company. It also said he used campaign funds to pay for Florida House activities already reimbursed by the state.
The Republican lawmaker issued a statement saying he always acted in compliance with Florida law.
