Mercury Elite supports transfer rates up to 480 Mbps By Dave Nagel
Otherworld Computing has shipped the latest in its Mercury Elite line of external hard drives. The devices use a 7200 RPM mechanism and include interfaces for both FireWire and USB 2.0.

The "combo drive" is compatible with Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows and works with the built-in ports on the Macintosh, as well as PCI and PCMCIA adapter cards. It offers transfer rates of 400 Mbps for FireWire and 480 Mbps for USB 2.0. (The USB 2.0 connector is also backwards compatible with USB 1.1.)

The Mercury Elite comes in models ranging in capacity from 40 GB to 120 GB. They sell for $189.99 to $299.99, depending on capacity. Each drive includes a FireWire cable, a USB cable, an external power supply and Intech HD SpeedTools software. For more information, visit http://www.macsales.com.
