OWC Ships 7,200 RPM Portable Drive

Other World Computing has started shipping a new model in its Mercury on the Go line of portable hard drives. The new model offers a 60 GB capacity and a 7,200 RPM mechanism. It's available now.

The Mercury on the Go 60 GB drive includes a 7,200 RPM mechanism from Hitachi with 8 MB cache, offering sustained read and write speeds of 37.62 MB per second and 33.28 MB per second, respectively, according to OWC. The portable drive weighs in at 11 ounces and measures 3.5" x 5.5" x 1.0". It available in two versions: a FireWire configuration with two FireWire ports or in a FireWire/USB combo configuration, which includes a powered FireWire port, an unpowered FireWIre port and a USB 2.0/1.1 port.

The Mercury on the Go 60 GB drive is available now for Macintosh and Windows systems. The FireWire version sells for $419.97; the FireWire/USB combo version sells for $429.99. For more information, visit
