OWC Launches FireWire 800 Drives

Units offer 1394a, 1394b, USB 2.0/1.1 connectors By Dave Nagel
Other World Computing today launched a new line in its range of external storage devices. The new line is called the Mercury Elite Pro FW800, which incorporates the new FireWire 800 interface introduced by Apple in January, combined with other forms of connectivity. The new drives are available now for Mac OS 9, Mac OS X and Windows.

OWC's Mercury Elite Pro FW800 drives are built on a custom Oxford922 bridge, offering data transfer rates of more than 60 MB per second, and use a 7200 RPM mechanism with up to 250 GB capacity and 8 MB cache. In addition to two FireWire 800 ports, the models also include one FireWire 400 port and one USB 2.0/1.1 port. The units also come with a free copy of Intech HD SpeedTools.

The Mercury Elite Pro FW800 drives start at $249.99 for an 80 GB capacity with 2 MB cache to $519.99 for a 250 GB capacity with 8 MB of cache. For more information, visit
