OK Labs Automotive Virtualization Selected by Bosch for Infotainment SystemsLeader in In-Vehicle Infotainment to Prototype With OKL4 Microvisor for Next-Generation Car Multimedia (March 26, 2012)
CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwire) -- 03/27/12 -- Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs), provider of embedded virtualization software for mobile and connected devices, today announced that Robert Bosch Car Multimedia has selected OK Labs automotive virtualization technology and will license the OKL4 Microvisor for prototyping and development of In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems.
As in-car systems accrue features and capabilities, underlying hardware and software grow in complexity. Automotive suppliers and equipment manufacturers face the dual challenge of meeting user expectations for cutting-edge multimedia, connectivity and other advanced functionality, while managing this complexity to satisfy industry requirements for robustness and reliability.
Building on OKL4 allows Tier-1 automotive suppliers, such as Bosch, to incorporate the latest consumer technology trends into the IVI user experience while preserving robustness of core capabilities like navigation and driver assistance. Moreover, by using OKL4, Tier-1 suppliers can consolidate IVI and "instant on" functionality (such as CAN and MOST networking) into a single host processing unit while continuing to meet strict requirements for rapid startup and real-time behavior.
"Building IVI systems with OKL4 can benefit the Bosch technology portfolio with strong separation of consumer and core automotive subsystems on one application processor. It lets manufacturers build open application environments without comprising reliability," commented Dr. Andree Zahir, Vice President Automotive Navigation and Infotainment Systems, Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH.
"Bosch selected OK Labs for next-generation IVI systems -- OKL4 performance and security are hard to beat," said Steve Subar, Founder and CEO, OK Labs. "As in mobile/wireless, OKL4 helps Bosch and other Tier-1 automotive suppliers deliver a robust and sophisticated in-vehicle user experience with the added bonus of lower systems costs."
