Nuendo Makes Inroads into Film and PostAudio Pros turn to Steinberg for film composition and post production (November 02, 2004)
After successfully establishing itself as a high-resolution surround music mixing solution, Steinbergs Nuendo Media Production System branches out into film composition and post-production, being utilized on a growing number of projects in Hollywood.
Steinberg has now introduced Nuendo 3 which incorporates essential post production features requested by the film community, and when married with its superior sonic quality and workflow efficiency, it becomes an ideal solution for the demanding schedules and budgets of Hollywood. Among the many new features in Nuendo 3 are AAF support, X-Send protocol, and an innovative ?Warp to Picture feature. As a result, Nuendo is becoming a mainstay in the workflow of many top Hollywood composers, mixers, and post production engineers such as John Ross, Paul Haslinger, and Bart Chiate.
Hollywood veteran John Ross recently used Nuendo for all audio editing during post-production for MGMs major release De-Lovely: The Life Of Cole Porter, which stars Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd. ?Its great to hear that Nuendo is moving closer to the center of Hollywoods post pro community, which, in my opinion, is where it belongs, commented Ross. ?And as a heavy user of both Nuendo and the Euphonix System 5, Im very excited by the prospect of even closer integration of these two outstanding products, he concluded.
Film Composer Paul Haslinger, whos credits include Underworld, The Girl Next Door, and the upcoming Into the Blue, relies on Nuendo as the center of his creative workspace. In addition to its superior sonic quality, Haslinger relies on Nuendo to manage a workflow that incorporates thousands of samples, live instruments, and racks of outboard gear. He must be able to recall and change cues on a moments notice, as well as be able to arrange and distribute parts to live players. ?Directors expect instant gratification now, states Haslinger. ?You have to be able to deliver a near-finished quality cue early on in the project.
Broadcasting from the legendary El Capitan Entertainment Center in Hollywood, the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show has updated its traditional taped-based broadcast and post-production environment to a native-based computer solution by installing a complete system built around Nuendo and Wavelab. The system records audio from several performance locations on the set. ?The flexibility and workflow of the Nuendo system allows me to handle several music sources very efficiently, notes Bart Chiate, the shows music mixer. ?In live television, the most important thing has to be reliability. I can record 48 tracks wide at 24/48 on the 7200 rpm IDE boot drive of my little 2.6 GHz PC with only 1 GB of Ram and the system is rock solid. Not even a hiccup.
