Northern Lights Post Adds Editor John LaskasBrings comedy/lifestyle skills to award-winning post house (November 02, 2004)
Northern Lights Post (northernlightspost.com), the award-winning post house founded by David Gioiella and Mark Littman, have added noted comedy/lifestyle editor John Laskas to its roster of talented editors.
"Creative diversity is something we pride ourselves on," Gioiella says. "We want all our editors to be comfortable working in many filmmaking styles and John is all about that. He's worked in long-form television, advertising, network IDs and promos. All the kind of work we're known for collectively, John has done at one point in his career. He's a perfect fit for us."
Laskas joins NLP following a yearlong assignment at boutique ad agency The Concept Farm where he headed the post-production effort for the ESPN25: The Season of the Fan ad campaign for ESPN. That project involved not only editing literally hundreds of spots but also supervising the Avid Unity asset management system that housed some 600 hours of source footage and graphics.
From Crew Cuts to SNL
Laskas began his career in 1996 as an assistant editor at Crew Cuts, New York, leaving there in 1999 to join Isis Post, New York as an editor. At Isis Post he worked extensively on long and short form projects for both ABC News and ABC Sports. It was also there that Laskas began his long-standing creative relationship with director James Signorelli of Saturday Night Live, editing many of the show's classic commercial parodies and short films.
Some of Laskas' best-known SNL work includes commercial parodies 'Homocil,' 'Horse Glue,' 'Gatorade Love Bucket' and 'Subshack,' as well as a short film called SNL FANatic (a parody of MTV's show FANatic) directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love) and featuring Ben Affleck. Laskas also edited the opening credit sequence for the 2000-2001 season, the Weekend Update open from 2000-2003 and work for the Saturday Night Live 25th Anniversary special.
For Laskas, joining NLP represents an opportunity for him to grow even more as an editor. "Working as a freelancer was a valuable experience on many levels, but to have the ability to grow with a highly-respected company like Northern Lights Post and have them take an active role in developing my career is a great opportunity."
New Commercial Sales Representation
In other Northern Light Post news, the company has named Rich Schafler of Schafler Artist Management, New York, as its east coast commercial sales rep. Schafler will focus on furthering the company's commercial spot work.
"Northern Lights is an extremely vibrant and dynamic company that already has well-established relationships with top creative agencies," said Schafler. "My goal is to strengthen those relationships and develop new ones. I think they are primed for extraordinary growth."
