CHICAGO, ILLINOIS -- (Marketwire) -- 10/21/09 -- Service providers around the world can improve their competitive advantage and provide more personalized and unified communications across any network or device thanks to the latest consumer voice and multimedia solutions provided by Nortel(1) (OTCBB: NRTLQ) Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions (CVAS). Nortel's IP Powered Home consumer voice and multimedia solution equips service providers to compete more effectively and significantly improve the way people communicate by providing advanced SIP features such as personalized call routing, call screening and fixed-mobile convergence integrated into carrier subscriber portals. These features help boost service provider's ability to compete and are backed by Nortel's strength in providing industry-leading carrier-grade reliability to more than 350 service providers across the globe.

Nortel's consumer solution allow subscribers to be contacted via one number for all of their phones and devices without having to change their phone number or ask their friends and family to update their address books. Subscribers can also program their devices to identify callers by setting unique ring tones and "announce" the incoming caller by specifying which phone should ring based on the caller and their location. For example, if the subscriber is at home when the call comes in, they can program the network to ring the landline instead of the mobile device, which allows the user to offload mobile minutes to their landline.
