No federal charges seen in Kansas Statehouse case

No federal charges expected against man with homemade bombs in truck near Kansas Statehouse By The Associated Press

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) ' A law enforcement spokeswoman says a man detained after homemade bombs were found inside a pickup near the Kansas Statehouse will not face federal charges.

Spokeswoman Trista Frederick of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Thursday that the agency helped with the investigation but that the case is being handled by Topeka authorities.

Capitol police arrested two men Wednesday in what authorities said were unrelated incidents.

The first involved the pickup, found in a parking lot across the street from the Statehouse. Officers arrested the owner in an underground tunnel linking the Statehouse and an office building.

Separately, a man accused of making a threatening phone call to Gov. Sam Brownback's office has been arrested and jailed.
