Nikon To Release New Cameras

5700 offers 5 megapixel resolution By Dave Nagel
Nikon has started previewing several new models in its Coolpix line of digital cameras. These include the 5700, 4500, 2500 and 2000, which range in resolution from 5 megapixels to 2 megapixels and offer a variety of features, including an 8x optical zoom lens on the 5700. Nikon says the cameras will be available in July.

Starting at the higher end, the 5700 offers a resolution of 5 megapixels and an 8x optical Zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens. It includes an Electronic Viewfinder, Nikon's Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass and the ability to capture in a raw data mode. It can also record up to a minute of video.

The Coolpix 4500 offers a 4.0 megapixel CCD and a 4x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens in a swivel lens body. It includes full manual controls as well as a range of automatic features.

The 2500 is a pocket-sized model with a 2.0 megapixel resolution and an inner swivel lens. Nikon hasn't said specifically when this model will be released, but the company is going on tour to show it off in June and is offering an iMac as a possible prize for those who visit on the tour. (More information about this can be found at Nikon's Web site.)

The Coolpix 2000 is a 2.0 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens and several automatic features, including One-Touch Upload, built-in scene modes and a VCD explaining the basics of digital photography.
