New iPhone App, Smurge, Lets Users Send Personalized Group Messages

  (June 21, 2012)

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 21, 2012

Promising the answer to impersonal group messages, the Smurge app allows users to send personalized group SMS messages, by inserting the names of individual recipients into each text with just a few taps. Instead of copying and pasting each message, then writing the names one-by-one, users that want to add a personal touch to their group messages can simply Smurge their text with a tap of a button.

All users have to do is type the SMS message, insert the {NAME} field where they want the recipients name to appear, select a group, and send it off. Smurge seamlessly integrates with iOS SMS and iMessage, sending messages separately, rather than using the iPhones group message feature, ensuring that recipients each get individual messages. Additionally, messages are not sent through external servers, so users can rest easily, knowing that their conversations are secure.

As you would expect with a group messaging app, Smurge offers a Groups feature that enables users to separate their contacts into specific categories, such as friends, relatives, clients, etc. As the messages are send out individually users can also cancel a specific contact at the last moment, to avoid potential irretractable embarrassment.

Ideal for Holidays and Special Occasions
The app is ideal for holiday greetings as recipients are found to appreciate a Merry Christmas message with their name on it, far more than a text thats obviously been sent to everybody else. Smurge also works well when it comes to sending out text invites for special occasions such as birthdays, because people tend to respond more positively when they see a message that has been personally sent to them.

A Boon for Marketers and Entrepreneurs
Aside from personal greetings, Smurge has also been found to be useful for marketers and entrepreneurs. Marketers who want to include a personal touch to their messages can do so by Smurging their text messages to clients, while entrepreneurs who wish to promote special events or sales via text can include their contacts individual names to each message, increasing the chances that recipients will remember it.

Opens Up More Communication and Engagement
According to Skeptic Labs founder Rami Kayvan, Smurge increases communication and engagement among users. Dull and dreary are some of the first things that may enter someone's mind when they receive a group message wishing them "Happy Easter!". That is not to say the message isn't appreciated, but merely knowing the same message has been sent to countless other individuals diminishes the feeling of personal touch, Kayvan said. He furthered that including a personal name in the body of the message paves the way for more interaction and engagement. When a person gets a text message thats specific to them, they will most likely pursue a conversation. The days of generic, impersonal group messages are coming to an end

Future Plans
Regarding what to expect with Smurge, Kayvan said that picture messaging as well as calendar integration capabilities are already in the works. Moreover, an Android version of the app is also under development.

Available on iTunes
Smurge is now live on iTunes and can be downloaded at the iTunes App Store for $0.99. Users may also view a video demonstration of the app by clicking on the YouTube link.
