New York PRSA Announces 2012 Big Apple Awards Call for Entries

Expanded Subcategories Recognize Campaigns With Various Budgets; Awards Presented at Elegant New Venue; Early Entries Due Friday, February 24 -- Late Entry Deadline Friday, March 9 (January 31, 2012)

NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 01/31/12 -- The New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-NY) has announced a new and expanded Big Apple Awards competition in 2012 that will offer the opportunity to enter and compete to many more professionals from the Tri-State Area than in recent years.

The expanded rules include the introduction of a new subcategory "campaigns with budgets of $100,000 or less," and the ability to submit a single campaign in up to three different categories. Early entries are due Friday, February 24 and late submissions will be accepted until Friday, March 9.

The awards ceremony, which recognizes outstanding programs created and executed in 2011, will take place at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 24, at the evening award ceremony's new venue, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

The New York Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America established the Big Apple Awards program in 1988 to encourage excellence in public relations. Today, a Big Apple Award is recognized as one of the highest honors in public relations. Over the years, more than 1,000 winning programs have solved problems, changed opinions and created business opportunities.

The 2012 Big Apple Awards competition is open to all public relations professionals in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut for programs created in 2011 and implemented anywhere in the world. Most or all of the strategic work on the programs should have been performed by professionals in the Tri-State Area.

A panel will judge each entry on the basis of research, planning, execution and results. An award recipient from each category is eligible for the illustrious "Best of the Best" award. Award categories include:

The "Best of the Best" in Research will be judged for the fifth year in a row by the prestigious Institute for Public Relations, an independent foundation dedicated to the science beneath the art of public relations™ and focused on research that is immediately applicable in communications practice.

The early entry deadline has been set for noon, Friday, February 24. The entry fee is $275 for PRSA-NY members and $320 for non-members. Late entries will be accepted until noon, Friday, March 9, only if accompanied by a late fee of $75. Fees for the same campaign entry submitted in one or two additional campaign categories are $200 each.
