New Study Reveals That IT Contractors Contribute to UK Status as Leader of Global Cyber Power

(January 24, 2012)

BLACKPOOL, LANCASHIRE -- (Marketwire) -- 01/24/12 -- The United Kingdom has come out on top as the global front-runner of cyber power, according to a recent survey. The UK's new status as a top 'cyber power' leader can be contributed to the country's quality IT contractors. And expert accountancy firms can help IT contractors with all aspects of taxing from the initial steps of setting up as a contractor, to running their own business and handling all the paperwork, to advice about IR35 legislation.

Findings in the Cyber Power Index reveal that the UK has ranked as one of the leaders of G20 nations for having the ability to withstand cyber-attacks and deploying the digital infrastructure necessary for a productive and secure economy.

The study was developed by the Economist Intelligence Unit, a source of analysis on international business and world affairs, and it showed that several major economies such as Argentina, Indonesia, Russia and Saudi Arabia, do not have cyber security plans and do not appear to be developing them.

The aim of the report was to measure both the success of digital adoption and cyber security and the degree in which countries promote and regulate national cyber power. Nations were scored on categories; Legal and Regulatory Environment, Economic and Social Context, Technology Infrastructure, and Industry Application.

Mike McConnell, Vice Chairman of Booz Allen Hamilton, said that the Index identified the countries that understood what it takes to operate in a digital era and those that do not.

He said: "The countries able to master the uses and security requirements of emerging technologies and societal shifts brought on by the cyber revolution will emerge as the cyber powers and the winners of the 21st century."

According to the results on The Cyber Hub, the top five countries exhibiting cyber power were the UK, America, Australia, Germany and Canada. Emerging market leaders included Brazil, Russia, India and China. The survey shows that big does not always mean powerful and that although China has a large population, in reality, the Cyber Index found that the country's level of cyber power was quite modest in comparison to Britain.
