New Limited Edition Artist Print Store ElectricityShowroom.com Pairs Up Artists to Inspire, Motivate, and Create Change(August 09, 2011)
Portland, OR (PRWEB) August 09, 2011
Portland-based social innovations collective, ecopop, creates their latest brand of art and activism in the form of electricityshowroom.com, a marketplace for limited edition artist prints. Founded by former ad agency owner turned social entrepreneur Chad Rea draws from copywriter and designer pairings to give creative types an outlet to make and sell stuff quickly.
It only took 12 years, but electricityshowroom.com finally went live this week.
When former ad agency owner turned social entrepreneur Chad Rea worked as a copywriter in London in the late 90s he purchased the URL in hopes of one day selling it back to his local water hole for a bar tab. Several years, domains, businesses, and zero URL inquires from the pub later, inspiration struck once again for a venture that would finally put a great name to good use.
To Rea, the name electricity showroom says it all a showroom for electricity, or as he likes to think of it, creative inspiration. Today, that electricity comes in the form of limited edition artist prints made from groups of artists collaborating with one another. Tomorrow, however, that renewable energy could power a number of other inspirational products designed to instigate that creative spark in all of us.
Electricity showroom currently features 30 or so modern, pop art designs by guest artists and Rea's words of finite wisdom, including "Let's Have A Meeting About A Meeting", and another best seller, "Please Go Out of Your Way To Not F#!k People Over". The website also invites other designers, artists and writers to get in on the action by collaborating with one another and selling their inspirational wares on the site.
Rea initially got the idea for the online business as a means to make stuff quicker. In advertising, you tend to work on a lot of creative projects at once, Rea says. Now that Im creating my own ventures from the ground up, the timelines are much longer than I typically have patience for. I needed something that would allow me to produce ideas quickly. Collaborating with other artists to make and sell limited prints direct to consumers seemed like the perfect creative outlet for everyone.
Established in 2008, ecopop is a social innovations collaborative that happily lives at the intersection of ecology and pop culture. We create brands, art, and activism - or brand artivism as we like to call it. ecopop ventures include everything from men's accessories made from recycled clothes to charity-based iPhone apps, as well as commissioned works from MTV Switch, Ethos Water, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Audubon Society, and more.
