New Book Proclaims the End of IT Autocracy, Rallies Information Managers to Occupy IT

Author and AIIM President John Mancini's Manifesto Calls for Empowering Information Professionals to Put the Right Information Into the Hands of the Right People (June 04, 2012)

SILVER SPRING, MD -- (Marketwire) -- 06/04/12 -- AIIM, the global community of information professionals, today released a free eBook titled, "#OccupyIT: A Technology Manifesto for Cloud, Mobile and Social Era." Written by AIIM President John Mancini, the book prescribes a framework for executives, IT managers, compliance officers, records managers -- essentially anyone tasked with getting business value from information -- to rethink technology investment and reclaim IT.

"As we who love the possibilities associated with technology know too well, our passion, curiosity and engagement can be hampered by fears, legacy systems and outdated policies," said Mancini. "I wrote this book for information professionals everywhere that rock our world on a daily basis to encourage them to enlighten and empower new ways of work."

Mancini believes that while CEOs around the world are aware of fundamental changes in information technology innovation, those organizations not linked into the cloud, mobile devices or social networks will be hard pressed to participate in the planet's future. To remain competitive, organizations need to rethink what they are trying to accomplish with IT and how they view the people charged with this urgent mission, he says.

"There is a significant disconnect between the nature of work in the future and the systems to support this work," Mancini says. "Today's decision-making tends to be dominated by those whose frame of reference is structured by the past rather than what lies in the future. Change is possible but only when we look differently at our technology investments and the skill sets of the people we charge with these investments."

The five demands of the #OccupyIT Manifesto outlined in the book are:
Demand #1 - Commit to the cloud to become faster, more agile and innovative.
Demand #2 - Mobilize everything to have more access, more often.
Demand #3 - Make the business social to increase meaningful engagement.
Demand #4 - Digitize anything that moves to improve responsiveness.
Demand #5 - Prepare for extreme information management by securing the right expertise.

In short, he says, business needs to Occupy IT.
