Nevada wildfire spreads, destroys 2 homesNevada wildfire destroys 2 homes, but officials say blaze moving away from neighborhood
HOLBROOK JUNCTION, Nev. (AP) ' Authorities say that a wildfire near the Nevada-California line has destroyed two homes and 17 outbuildings and has burned an estimated 4,400 acres.
Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey says in a statement Tuesday night that the fire is still moving away from residential areas north of Topaz Lake as winds subside along the Sierra's eastern front.
Authorities earlier said that the blaze had burned at least seven homes.
Between 100 and 200 homes were threatened at one time in the Topaz Ranch Estates about 50 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe after the fire broke out before 2 p.m.
Halsey says none of the homes were in any immediate danger as of 9:45 p.m.
Three air tankers and three helicopters were assisting about 450 firefighters battling the blaze.
