Network Equipment Technologies Announces General Availability of UX Platform Release 2.1Support for Small Branch Office Specific Interfaces Like BRI and FXO and Features Such as Music-On-Hold Expand Company's Reach in Unified Communications Market (May 08, 2012)
FREMONT, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/08/12 -- Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. ("NET") (NASDAQ: NWK), a leading provider of enterprise-class networking solutions optimized for secure real-time communications in unified communications (UC), SIP Trunking and enterprise mobility, announced today the general availability of release 2.1 of its UX Series platform, which currently includes the UX1000 and UX2000 products. Among the new features is support for additional hardware interfaces provided on the UX1000 product. In December of last year, the company's UX1000 launched with support for the analog Foreign Exchange Subscriber (FXS) interface. With release 2.1, NET has added support for two new interfaces: the ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) and the Foreign Exchange Office (FXO) interface. With these additions, NET has addressed the needs of small enterprise branch offices on a global basis looking to deploy enhanced UC solutions.
A major percentage of the enterprise workforce is typically stationed away from the headquarters at a small branch or a home office. These offices typically have low bandwidth connections to the internet or low call-capacity connections to the public switched telephone network through their public telephone service provider. The most common connections for such branch offices are two-channel BRIs (for a digital line to a small enterprise branch office) or single-channel FXOs (for an analog line to a home office or a very small branch office).
"With support for BRI and FXO along with other voice interfaces and signaling protocols like ISDN Primary Rate Interface (PRI), Channel Associated Signaling (CAS), FXS and SIP, NETs UX Series now provides connectivity to a very large number of the world's PBXs, IP-PBXs and PSTNs," said Kevin Isacks, Chief Development Officer, Network Equipment Technologies. "This, when combined with the remote management capability of UX Series-based devices, provides a very attractive and cost-effective solution for small enterprise branch offices to enable UC adoption."
Apart from the introduction of hardware interfaces, the highlights of release 2.1 of the UX Series platform also include various features and enhancements like music-on-hold, Lync E911 PSAP callback support, and SIP phone survivability.
"Calls to enterprise users may be put on hold for a number of reasons. Calls being put on hold with dead silence makes the caller feel like the hold time is much longer than it actually is, leading to the caller hanging up. Studies show that up to 90% of callers will hang up if they experience silence. Music-on-hold support on UX Series-based devices thus becomes a very attractive feature for enterprises," said Matthew D. Krueger, Vice President, Network Equipment Technologies.
