NetImmerse Gets a Performance Boost

NetImmerse, one of the new darlings of game development engines, released a new version that the company says delivers 20- to 50-percent performance gains when tested on real customer applications. The 4.1 version includes new features such as performance profiling and memory tracking, batch rendering, improved integration with the Havok physics run-time engine, and added functionality for plug-ins and keyframe manager software.

NetImmerse is an object-oriented C++ software toolkit for creating real-time games and other interactive 3D content for Windows, Windows NT, Xbox, Gamecube, and PlayStation2 platforms. The company emphasizes the time savings of the engine over other engines, as much as three engineer development years.


The NetImmerse toolkit includes plug-ins for 3D Studio MAX, Multigen Creator, and Alias|Wavefront Maya and the game developer can view content in real-time and export to the NetImmerse engine. Licensees receive full source code for all plug-ins.

For PC development, NetImmerse requires Microsoft Developer's Studio 6. On the Macintosh, Metroworks CodeWarrior 5 is supported. CodeWarrior, SN Systems Pro DG, and gcc are supported for PlayStation2.
