Nestle's Hjem-IS Ice Cream Trucks Extend Mobile Service With Paperlinks QR Code Promotional Campaign

Popular European Brand Uses QR Codes as Portal for Mobile Commerce and Coupons (August 15, 2011)

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/15/11 -- Nestle's popular ice cream company Hjem-IS launched last week a new marketing campaign using the increasingly popular QR (Quick Response)-based technology from Paperlinks, the premier QR code platform for creating a hyperlinked world, the companies announced today. Hjem-IS, one of Scandinavia's most recognizable ice cream brands, debuted QR codes as part of their promotions during the Tour of Denmark, a major international cycling event, which runs from August 3-7. With over half a million attendees viewing the race across Denmark, Hjem-IS promoted marketing opportunities around the race where they delighted and rewarded customers with coupons offered via a custom Paperlinks QR code displayed on promotional materials.

"The Hjem-IS brand is a mobile business through and through, as our model relies upon vans to deliver joy to customers whenever, wherever," said Jes Nordentoft, Nordic Business Developer at Hjem-IS, a Nestle company. "Now, we are taking our mobile model to a new level with Paperlinks, which will give our customers quick and easy access to promotions and loyalty club information, as well as the ability to order, purchase and set up delivery of ice cream with just a few clicks. Delivering ice cream on a whim, whenever the customer's need emerges, is crucial for business, and mobile commerce allows us to deliver on demand."

Debuting at last week's cycling event, the Hjem-IS designer QR codes were displayed prominently on posters at the start and finish lines for smartphone users to scan with the Paperlinks iPhone App or any other barcode scanning app. Once directed to a customized mobile landing page, customers could view and interact with a variety of features and content, including:

  • Deals currently offered for two rotating ice cream products
  • Direct link to a mobile commerce check-out system, allowing customers the ability to snag deals, place orders of favorite Hjem-IS desserts, and set up delivery, all on-the-spot
  • Sign-up for the Hjem-IS Loyalty Club
  • View video and photos of various ice cream and dessert options
  • Display the Paperlinks code on the smartphone screen to share with others

"Large brands are increasingly seeking to integrate QR codes into their marketing and mobile commerce efforts, and they are realizing the limitless potential it offers," said Hamilton Chan, CEO of Paperlinks. "QR codes have already found their place in offline-to-online advertising, marketing and information exchange, and the possibilities for m-commerce, as exemplified by this campaign with Hjem-IS, are just now bubbling up."

Organizations of all sizes have worked with Paperlinks to help them connect with audiences in innovative ways by creating interactive mobile content that employs Paperlinks' full-service platform, smartphone app and design capabilities. Businesses can create their own QR code campaign in minutes using Paperlinks' web portal, which deploys a drag-and-drop interface and offers sophisticated interactive modules and customizable features critical to businesses. Paperlinks also provides companies with options for deep brand integration by means of designer QR codes. Visit for more information.
