National Mobile Television Helps Bring HD To The NFLNMT supplies newest HD units to FOX Sports for NFL coverage (September 30, 2004)
Fans of the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers might not have been pleased with their teams losses during the inaugural week of the 2004 NFL season, but thanks to National Mobile Television (NMT), and FOX Sports, the HD telecasts were crystal clear.
NMT supplied two of their newest HD units, HD7 and HD8, to FOX Sports as part of their agreement to provide HD facilities for NFL games during the 2004 season. HD7 was used for the Falcons/49ers game from San Francisco and HD8 on the Giants/Eagles game from Philadelphia.
?Both trucks are identical in every respect, but are outfitted slightly differently at the request of FOX, says Jerry Gepner, president of NMT. Gepner says that both trucks are capable of providing 24 HD cameras along with 24 channels of tape or disc recording and replay.
Both units rely on SSL MT+digital audio consoles, Kalypso HD switchers with Dveous MX DVE and RTS ADAM Communications. The routers used on both units are 160X128 HD and 256X256 SD digital Grass Valley Trinix systems.
In addition, each truck has an EVS HD Spotbox, an LSM HDXT, several LSM-RO systems and the EVS Xfile Digital Archive station, all operating over a common network.
For the all-important HD camera work, HD7 is using 10 Grass Valley LDK6000 cameras outfitted with 86:1 and 100:1 Canon lenses while HD8 is using 11 of the same cameras and lenses.
Gepner adds that both units are also equipped with a pair of Tandberg HD encoders with ASI monitoring, offering customers complete HD production and transmission services.
Both HD7 and HD8 will next be used during this Sundays NFL on FOX coverage, October 3, for games from Sundevil Stadium in Arizona and Soldier Field in Chicago, respectively.
