NOLA.com Launches New High School Sports Smartphone Apps with Advance Internet and Mobile IQ(August 15, 2011)
New Orleans, LA (PRWEB) August 15, 2011
NOLA.com has launched new Android and iPhone smartphone apps covering high school sports teams throughout South Louisiana.
The Louisiana High School Sports Android app and the Louisiana High School Sports iPhone app feature content from the number one New Orleans news, sports and information website in affiliation with The Times-Picayune.
Our coverage of high school sports is second to none in this community, said Jim Amoss, editor of The Times-Picayune. As more and more of our readers look to their smartphones to keep up on the latest news and sports, these apps give them instant access to our ongoing prep coverage.
The apps are free for consumers to download and use. Fans are able to select and save their favorite teams to appear on the home screen of the app. Users who select favorite teams will see each teams latest game scoreboard and upcoming schedule. They also will have the option of requesting push alert notifications whenever any of their favorite teams has completed a game.
With the intense interest in high school sports in our area, these apps are a vital addition for our readers, said James OByrne, director of content for NOLA.com. We think people will be excited about being able to follow their favorite teams whenever and wherever they want.
The apps are available for download at no charge in the iTunes App Store and the Android Market. They were developed and launched with Advance Internet and Mobile IQ. The technology development firm Mobile IQ worked with Advance Internet to provide a unique and engaging smartphone app experience for the millions of high school sports fans using Advance Internet sites, including NOLA.com the leading local source of high school sports news and information in New Orleans.
The apps will leverage Advance Internets custom-built high school sports platform, which manages news, stats, standings and schedules in 44 sports. There are 110,000 team pages for users to choose from across all Advance Internet markets. The platform generates more than 100 million page views a year.
(NOLA.com also has a high school sports mobile website that can be accessed by going to nola.com on mobile device web browsers.)
