NMT Announces Two New HD Mobile Broadcasting UnitsHD10 and SBS1 represent state-of-the-art solutions for regional sports broadcasts in HDTV (May 12, 2005)
Earlier this month National Mobile Television delivered two new HD mobile units, HD10 and SBS1 constructed by Venue Services Group (VSG), a leading broadcast systems integration firm. These mobile units feature the latest in HD equipment and can work in tandem to satisfy the needs for HDTV broadcast for both national and regional sports networks.
HD10 is a full-scale, 48-foot expando truck, with state-of-the-art live broadcast equipment that includes a Sony MVS8000 Switcher, a Yamaha PM4000-52 Audio Console, Thomson LDK6000 cameras with Canon 100x and 86x lenses and four 4-channel EVS HD LSM-XT Digital Disc Systems.
SBS1 represents a new concept in sports broadcasting that will enable rights holders to provide more efficient, full production television coverage for the visiting teams fans. This ?Side-by-Side unit is a smaller, 30-foot truck that provides full audio, graphics and engineering for HDTV and standard definition broadcasts. This gives visiting sports teams all of the camera feeds and replay functions of the main truck, in a more compact mobile unit. Onboard networking capability interfaces with the host router, production switcher, communication and EVS systems. The SBS1 has its own Sony switcher, Midas audio console with surround sound mixing ability, an HD/SD EVS and Chyron Duet Graphics.
The concept for the SBS1 was developed by Jerry Gepner, President of National Mobile Television (NMT). After final construction by VSG, Mr. Gepner was pleased with the results. ?VSG did a fantastic job in realizing this new solution for the remote production industry. When tied to a host unit, SBS1 has all the functionality of a full-scale production unit in a much more compact environment. Now, visiting teams, international broadcasters and foreign language producers can provide top-notch coverage to their audiences without the need for a traditional production unit.
?We were very excited to be able to bring Jerrys concept of the SBS to fruition, said Dave Shaw, President of Venue Services Group. ?In fact, HD10 and SBS1 were the first mobile units built in our new twelve-thousand-square-foot facility. Our staff provided a high-end design with superior engineering in these new HDTV production trucks.
HD10 and SBS1 now serve Fox Sports Net Bay Area for their HDTV broadcasts of the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics. These new mobile units expand NMTs fleet of the latest in HD production and solidify VSGs reputation as a leading broadcast systems integrator.
National Mobile Television, with main offices in Torrance, CA and Somerville, NJ, and satellite offices in Orlando and St. Louis, provides mobile television facilities for the production of television broadcasts from remote locations, such as stadiums, arenas, and conference halls. In 2004, NMT provided facilities and services for more than 5,000 events, including major sporting, entertainment, distance learning, and corporate events for major broadcast networks, cable networks and independent producers including ABC Sports, CBS Sports, ESPN, Fox News, Fox Sports Network, and New England Sports Network.
