NI To Deliver Digital Performer Integration for Mac OS XMAS development on hold as Audio Units take over
Native says that it's working closely with MOTU and Apple to provide "mutually compatible" products under Mac OS X. In a statement released on the company's Web site today, NI said, "Engineering teams at MOTU, NI and Apple are in close contact and place the highest priority on the seamless operation of Native Instruments plug-ins within Digital Performer via the Mac OS X Audio Unit (AU) plug-in standard. Compatible updates of all NI plug-ins will be available as soon as possible."
NI adds that because it's focusing on Mac OS X development, new products released this year will not support MAC under Mac OS 9. The company is currently in development on several of its products to bring them up to speed on Mac OS X. A development schedule for 2003 is available here.
Native has also released an update for Traktor FS, a system for DJs to use vinyl-style techniques in a digital environment. It combines Stanton's Final Scratch and Native's Traktor DJ Studio. Final Scratch is a hardware interface for real-time manipulation of digital audio files with techniques like pitching, cueing, spinning and needle dropping. The new 1.1.4 update adds visual control of time code sent by the Final Scratch hardware. It also includes improvements to hardware and software integration. The update is available free for current users and supports Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. For more information, visit http://www.nativeinstruments.de.
