NHK to Integrate Shotokus New Camera Robotics SystemWill integrate two TG-19 VR pan/tilt heads and TR-8T control units with legacy equipment (December 08, 2005)
Substantial cost savings and operational advantages are just two of the benefits bundled into NHKs new Shotoku Broadcast Systems robotic control camera system. Japans sole public broadcaster and a leader in advanced broadcast technology, NHK has purchased the Shotoku gear to integrate tightly with its legacy Radamec camera control equipment, maximizing capital investments as well as increasing functionality.
All pan / tilt heads and control panels in the Shotoku range are compatible with other manufacturers robotic counterparts. NHKs Shotoku configuration will integrate two TG-19 VR pan / tilt heads and TR-8T control units into its existing Radamec system. The Shotoku panels will control both Radamec and Shotoku heads; in addition, the existing Radamec system will be capable of controlling both sets of heads also.
The new system will be used in a virtual studio environment and therefore will be fully VR capable. The TG-19 VR head, containing an exceptionally precise encoder feedback on the output shaft (better than 1/400 per degree) for robotic and VR applications, can bear a 154lb. (70Kg) payload and features manual operations with adjustable fluid damping, and Shotokus unique ?Learn Mode.
The TR-8T control system has been designed specifically for intuitive control of robotic cameras in high usage news, sports, current affairs studios. The model furnishes precision control for multiple cameras with an unlimited shot capacity per camera. Video is captured and stored on the touchscreen allowing operators to build a ?story board and easily recall shots with a touch to the monitor. All camera movements are accessed on the touchscreen as well.
The units exclusive features include multiple display modes, single camera mode with LIVE video, additional positional control for precise shots via operator selection, and an interface to external devices.
Shotoku is currently developing an interface to NHKs newsroom computer system to allow the broadcaster to achieve a higher level of automation.
