NEC Intros 50-Inch Plasma Monitor

PlasmaSync 50MP2 comes in at $13,000 By Dave Nagel
NEC Technologies has introduced a 50-inch plasma display. The PlasmaSync 50MP2 includes a higher contrast ratio than previous NEC plasma displays and also comes in at a lower introductory price than any previous NEC 50-inch XGA display--$12,995.

Targeted toward training facilities and broadcast production, editing and playback applications, the 50MP2 supports high-resolution computer, video and HDTV signals. It also features NEC's AccuCrimson technology, which enhances shades of red by eliminating the orange tint seen in many plasma displays. It also includes NEC's Capsulated Color Filter technology for more accurate color reproduction and Advanced Accublend scan conversion for enhancing screen images in non-native resolutions.

Other features include:

  • A digital zoom to magnify a section of the screen up to 300 percent
  • Split-screen technology, including variable-sized picture in picture window
  • A phosphor protection system.

The contrast ratio in this model is 50 percent higher than in its predecessor, and power consumption has dropped by 25 percent, according to NEC. The PlasmaSync 50MP2 is available now. For more information, visit
