NAB: Medea Intros New Arrays

New VideoRaid arrays debut in two configurations By Dave Nagel
Medea has introduced several new configurations in its VideoRaid and StreamRaid servers. The new models include the VideoRaid FCR2 and FCRX2. The new StreamRAIDs include the StreamRAID 12 and StreamRAID 48. The new models will be rolled out between now and the third quarter.

The new VideoRaid models feature a 2 gigabit fibre channel interface and offer data transfer rates up to 200 MB per second per channel. They enabling multiple workstations to share a common pool of centralized storage. Features include a real-time RAID controller, built-in four- or eight-port fibre channel hub, additional optical fibre ports and removable drive modules. VideoRaid is compatible with Macintosh, Windows and Linux systems.

The five-drive VideoRaid FCR2 will be available in capacities up to 720 GB with list prices starting at $4899. VideoRaid FCRX2 will be available in five- and 10-drive configurations with capacities up to 1.44 TB. List prices start at $5599. VideoRaid FCR2 and FCRX2 will be available in May.

StreamRAID is a new family of 24/7 server-class disk arrays designed to support rich media and streaming applications and offer fault-tolerant storage for broadcast video servers, Web servers, storage area networks, closed circuit television and disk to disk backup.

The StreamRAID family consists of StreamRAID 12 and StreamRAID 48, incorporating 12 and 48 Hitachi Deskstar disk drives in a single rack-mountable chassis. Features include Active-Active RAID controllers, sustainable performance to 800 MB per second per controller, built-in 2 gigabit fibre channel switching Technology, hot-swappable parallel or serial ATA drives, real-time RAID algorithm, in-band and remote monitoring, background reconstruction and software management tools.

The StreamRAID 12 offers more than 3 TB of useable storage in 3U of rack space. It offers up to eight ports of 2 gigabit fibre and can provide throughput of up to 400 MB per second. The StreamRAID 48 offers more than 15 TB of useable storage in 4U of rack space with up to 16 ports of 2 gigabit fibre offering throughput of up to 1.6 GB per second.
