NAB 2007 Automatic Duck waddles in some great news
If you are an After Effects user, you have probably heard of or use Pro Import AE from Automatic Duck. Being a PC user I was incredibly elated when Pro Import AE shipped. I was now able to work with Final Cut Pro files, effortlessly bringing them into After Effects 7.
At NAB 2007, I stopped by the Automatic Duck booth to meet Wes Plate, president of the company. After exchanging emails for many months it was nice to shake the hand of the brains behind the Duck. At the booth, Wes showed me the latest version in progress, Pro Import AE 4.0.
Pro Import 4.0
Get ready for a new Duck. Pro Import AE 4.0 is a huge upgrade. Wes wanted to make sure Pro Import AE 4.0 addressed many of the new developments in the After Effects world such as Intel-based Macs and Adobes new version 8 of After Effects. ?Pro Import AE 4.0 covers a lot of ground Wes said.
A slick new advanced interface now offers many new import options including the capability to have layers ?step up or ?step down in the After Effects timeline. You can now override the composition settings of the new comp. Avid rendered media is now available for use in the After Effects timeline.
What about Adobe CS3?
Pro Import AE 4.0 will be compatible with Adobes new version of After Effects. Kudos to Wes for planning ahead. Note: Version 4.0 is the only version compatible with CS3.
Pro AE 4.0 supports the following:
- Final Cut Multiclips
- Motion particles and replicators
- Red Giant Softwares Colorista plug in from Final Cut Pro into After Effects
- Avid Advanced keyframes in picture-in-picture and 3D warp
- Avid Timewarps
- Dip-to-Color transitions
- Final Cut Pro Basic 3D effect
- Video Strobe effects
- HDV, DVCProHD, and XDCAM improved support for Final Cut Pro users
Plate also told me the development of Pro Import AE 4.0 will continue until its summer release. What does that mean? Additional cool features!
I use AE Pro Import 3.0 daily. It has been immeasurably invaluable in my workflow on my current film, ?Fiesta Grand. The new features are huge and address some well known needs. Wes Plate and Automatic Duck are a class act. The support for their products is rock solid. Pro Import AE 4.0 will be available this summer and will run $495.
