Muse Research Intros Receptor

2U rackmount system offers VST-based synthesis and effects processing By Dave Nagel
Muse Research earlier this month introduced Receptor, the company's debut audio hardware/software product. Receptor is a programmable synthesizer, effects processor and guitar processor. It's expected to be available in the first quarter with support for Macintosh and Windows systems.

Receptor is targeted toward keyboardists, studio users and guitarists, offering synthesis and processing capabilities built around the VST plugin standard. Muse bills Receptor as a "complete synthesizer and effects rack in a box." The system is packaged in a 2U box and includes a hard drive with a "large number" of plugins, a hardware user interface, MIDI I/O, balanced audio I/O, digital I/O and guitar input. It supports 16 channels of audio or synths with up to 57 effects and offers a 32-bit mixing architecture for full MIDI automation of all audio parameters. It also offers preset-based recall of inputs, synths and effects.

According to Muse, Receptor is compatible with Mac and Windows systems through an Ethernet interface for managing the system from the desktop. It also supports Pro Tools, Nuendo, Sonar, Digital Performer, Logic, Cubase and other DAW and sequencing systems.

Receptor will be available in the first quarter of 2004. Pricing has not been announced. For more information, visit http://www.museresearch.com.
