BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) ' Murray Light, a former editor of The Buffalo News, has died on his 85th birthday.
The newspaper reports that Light died Friday in his Buffalo home but didn't disclose the cause of death.
Light's former colleagues are remembering him as an old-school newspaperman who reveled in the opportunity to be at the center of the action while directing news coverage with a keen devotion to ethics and principles.
Light spent 50 years at the newspaper, the last 20 as editor. He retired in 1999.
After his retirement, the paper's owner, Warren Buffett, commissioned Light to write a history of The Buffalo News. It was published in 2004.
A memorial service is planned for Nov. 4 at Temple Beth Zion.
