MultiTouch Releases New Software for Augmented Reality and Multitouch Applications for Interactive Displays

MultiTouch Cornerstone Software Enables Linkages Between Physical Objects and MultiTouch Applications; Creates MultiTouch Fun (April 19, 2010)
DMN Newswire--2010-4-19--MultiTouch, Ltd., developer of the world’s first modular multi-touch LCD screen for large-scale displays, today announced the latest version of its MultiTouch Cornerstone software, which provides augmented reality capabilities, so that 2D bar codes, tags, and markers can be recognized and can provide links between physical objects and interactive touch-screen applications.  MultiTouch Cornerstone enables software developers to create rich interactive multitouch applications for the MultiTouch Cell products, large-scale table or stand-up displays that allow an unlimited number of hands to be simultaneously tracked.  The MultiTouch Cornerstone software also enables existing applications to add multitouch functionality.

At the recent New York International Auto Show, the MultiTouch Cell provided a hands-on interactive tour of the new Lincoln MKZ hybrid auto.  A “Technology Access Pass” card activated the experience, which was designed by noted interactive design firm Imagination.

MultiTouch’s patented computer vision system is complemented by software that elegantly translates touch into the programming experience.  MultiTouch presented the first native Windows 7 multitouch applications for its MultiTouch Cell displays at CES 2010, and the new release of Cornerstone supports a wide array of programming languages and development environments and protocols, including C++/OpenGL; Adobe Flash/Flex/Air; .NET; Microsoft Visual Studio; Silverlight, TUIO and XML stream, among others.

“Some of the world’s leading visual experience architects are using Cornerstone to bring the full multitouch experience to their messages, and our new release unleashes a new level of creativity for the multitouch designer,” said Timo Korpela, general manager of North America for MultiTouch Ltd.  “From interactive designers to special venue producers to transmedia producers, the multitouch display industry is a fertile arena in which to develop the next generation of visually, and physically, interactive experiences, and MultiTouch Cornerstone provides a catalyst to this growing community of developers.”

MultiTouch Cornerstone supports Windows, Mac, and Linux, and includes a large sample of customizable applications and provides a rich set of vectors for developers.  The software uses rear diffuse infrared technology and can scale up to 14 full HD images.  Runtime libraries are included with the MultiTouch Cell products.

The MultiTouch Cell displays enable multiple users to manipulate images on the displays - whether playing games, resizing maps, pictures, or videos – by tracking the actual fingers and hands, for richer interaction.  The modular MultiTouch displays can be configured as stand-alone 32-inch or 46-inch units, or can be stacked for large-scale commercial/industrial displays.  The company’s patented high-performance system tracks an unlimited number of hands on the screens at 120 frames per second, in bright daylight and dark environments. The MultiTouch Cell is a modular and stackable LCD cell with built-in multiuser and multitouch capabilities with full HD 1920x1080 pixel resolution.
