MovingPicture Adds Flash Output

Pan and zoom tool previews motion in real time By Dave Nagel
StageTools has added Flash output from its MovingPicture application. Moving Picture is a tool for panning and zooming directly within a host editor or compositing application, such as Final Cut Pro and After Effects.

MovingPicture supports image sizes up to 4,000 x 4,000 pixels. It's designed for documentary makers who need to pan and zoom on high-resolution images. The new Flash option, which is freely available from the company's Web site, allows users to export SWF files directly from the MovingPicture application. The company says the image size is approximately the same as a standard JPEG. For example, a panning image in the SWF format comes out to about 50 KB.

With MovingPicture, users can drag and size a framing box on an image to set pan and zoom. Editor's can preview the motion in real time, and the final output can be rendered in without leaving the editor's timeline. Motion is field-rendered at sub-pixel accuracy in full 32-bit color.

Macintosh versions are available for After Effects, Avid, Final Cut Pro, Media 100 and Premiere. A fully functional evaluation copy can be downloaded from the company's Web site at The MovingPicture Plug-In is priced at $199. Registered users can upgrade at no charge.
