Motorola Ships Two Millionth Digital Set-Top Box to Comcast Cable

Milestone Shipment Marks Two Broadband Companies' Success in Wide-Scale Delivery of Digital Cable Technology (November 08, 2001)
Motorola, Inc. Broadband Communications Sector announced today that it presented Philadelphia-based Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. with a commemorative award marking the shipment of its two-millionth DCT digital set-top to the country's third largest cable company. To honor this milestone, Motorola Broadband president Dave Robinson presented Comcast Cable president Stephen B. Burke with a special-edition silver DCT set-top terminal in a special ceremony at Comcast's Philadelphia headquarters.

"This award recognizes Comcast's aggressive roll-out of advanced broadband services and its commitment to offering subscribers the latest interactive digital services to keep them entertained, informed and connected," said Robinson.

Comcast currently has deployed Motorola digital set-tops in its systems in Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia.

Added Burke, "We value our partnership with an industry leader like Motorola and the support they provide us in our efforts to bring our customers more and better choices in home entertainment and communications. This milestone demonstrates our shared commitment to make broadband services more widely available."

Burke and Robinson also came together a week prior when they appeared as speakers at the Greater Philadelphia Chamber Tech Forum on October 30 to discuss why the Philadelphia area is ideally suited to capitalize on new technology. Motorola and Comcast are currently working together to make high-definition television (HDTV) service available to nearly 1.8 million customers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Comcast began providing the service this month, using a Motorola HDD-2000 decoder in combination with the Motorola DCT2000 digital set-top.
