Morgan County School System Deploys Xirrus Wireless Arrays to Raise the Bar for Online Learning

Xirrus Wireless Arrays Provide High-Performance Coverage and Bandwidth for Classroom Technology Initiatives (February 15, 2012)

THOUSAND OAKS, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/15/12 -- Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, announced today that it has deployed 802.11n Wireless Arrays across the Morgan County School System in Madison, Georgia. The school system enrolls approximately 3,300 students across five campuses and is dedicated to providing an outstanding educational experience to each student. Noting progressive one-to-one and "Bring Your Own Device" policies that serve to enhance learning through technology, Morgan County Schools are proud of their excellent reputation and high standards in education. In an effort to further increase the efficiency of their new technology programs, the school system implemented a high-performance Xirrus wireless network.

"We upgraded our wireless in preparation for our 1:1 initiative and a deployment of approximately 600 netbooks," said Jay Cawley, director of technology at Morgan County School System. "We had an existing Cisco wireless solution that covered all of our campuses, and, while it provided sufficient coverage, it could not support the user density we required. We did some research on expanding the existing solution to meet density requirements, but, in the end, Xirrus was a more comprehensive solution that was more powerful, easier to manage, and less expensive."

"This was one of the easiest implementations I've ever completed," continued Cawley. "It was fabulous working directly with a Xirrus engineer to do the site survey and install the equipment. Everything was installed properly and the post-deployment survey found that everything was operating as anticipated and promised. The two biggest victories for me were getting coverage in areas that we didn't initially anticipate and the ease and convenience of the Xirrus Management System (XMS). We use XMS as our primary management interface, and it has helped tremendously in our ability to monitor the network. We utilize the XMS to push out new firmware to the Arrays and to change policies and SSIDs on the network as necessary. In fact, we haven't had to worry about the network since deploying Xirrus."
