Moneyshots Wins VMA for Best Special EffectsStudio honored for work on Outkast?s ?Hey Ya!? (August 31, 2004)
Moneyshots came up big at MTVs Video Music Awards Sunday night, winning the award for Best Special Effects for its work on the Outkast video Hey Ya!. Elad Offer and Chris Eckardt, founders of the visual effects and animation studio, were on hand in Miami to accept the Moonman statuette. Hey Ya!, directed by Bryan Barber, also won VMA Awards for Video of the Year, Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Art Direction.
The technically demanding video, in which Outkasts Andre 3000 plays multiple roles, was shot over two days at Universal Studios on a stage styled to look like a television studio circa 1960. ?We are thrilled to have the efforts recognized with a VMA Award, said Offer, who served as creative director. ?This project took a large group of people working around the clock to make it look seamless. The video was brilliantly conceived by the director and producer, and featured a tremendously talented band. That made it an ideal visual effects project.
Earlier this year, Hey Ya! won four Music Video Production Association awards, including Video of the Year. The video also received a Grammy nomination for Best Short Form Video.
