Monetizing UC for an Enterprise SaaS Value Added Service -- Insights Into Market Trends and Objectives

A New Whitepaper and Free Webinar on 5 November 08 by Frost & Sullivan and CommuniGate Systems Discusses the Rationale for a Next-Generation UC Client Solution (October 30, 2008)

MILL VALLEY, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/30/08 -- According to Frost & Sullivan in their latest whitepaper, a good client design can be fundamental in increasing the uptake of Unified Communications (UC) by both consumer and enterprise users. The whitepaper on behalf of CommuniGate Systems outlines a key determinant of the overall success of a UC service is the UE (User Experience) of that application, and the UI (User Interface) is a critical component of the overall end user experience. The UI represents the focal point of interaction between the device and the user. A good UI design usually entails the integration of applications, call control, and some value added features in a simple and easy-to-use man-machine. Service providers are looking for ways to raise the level of satisfaction of their end users and consequently reduce the churn rates of these subscribers. Moreover, operators also desire to be more flexible in what services they offer and how they offer them.

For service providers a good client design must be coupled with delivery features that are low impact and suitable for large scale deployments where thousands of companies with potentially hundreds of users each will access the UC solution following a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. Installation on the desktop should be straightforward and be held at a minimum, lending the requirements directly to Web 2.0 technologies like Adobe Flash and AJAX. A good UI must also have a mechanism to link to other VAS (Value Added Service) applications the service provider offers. Delivery of video content such as IPTV/VOD (IP Television / Video on Demand) is an important value added service (VAS) many providers have invested in for their triple play strategies. A modular system with open APIs is fundamental to insure the operator has the ability to add new applications to the UI quickly.

Ronald Gruia, Principal Analyst, Emerging Telecom with Frost & Sullivan and Jon R. Doyle, VP Business Development with CommuniGate Systems will discuss these objectives in a live web conference on 5 November 08 starting at 9 am PST. This webinar will also address the challenges of "delivery," "multi-tenancy" and "mobility" being faced by service providers looking to offer UC in the SaaS model. "The UC market is poised to grow at a tremendous pace and the one segment that still remains somewhat underserved is the SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) space. A feature rich, high capacity and multi-tenant SaaS UC solution such as CommuniGate Pro and its Flash based web 2.0 client Pronto! can surely address this opportunity," states Ronald Gruia, Principal Analyst, Emerging Telecom with Frost & Sullivan. "In the web conference we will cover the key intangibles of Pronto! including how it can help operators address the sweet spot of the enterprise market, namely the SME segment."

"We see a growing demand for tailored UC applications for specific market verticals, such as medical, legal, and transportation that tie into business processes. The delivery of these technologies in the SaaS model is key for network operators to leverage volume in the SME market segment that they otherwise could not achieve with on-prem technologies while delivering UC as SaaS," explains Jon R. Doyle, VP Business Development CommuniGate Systems. "We also see that the time to build these custom applications on an adaptable SaaS platform like CommuniGate Pro will enable them to grab unique market share that on-prem solutions have trouble meeting because of costs and complexities that SME's cannot afford."

CommuniGate Pro is based upon a Multi-Tenant and a Dynamic Clustering architecture providing a high density solution with live change management features for SaaS providers. CommuniGate Pro makes it easy for service providers to offer business class services with costs that decline as virtualized client volume increases. CommuniGate Pro's Mobility Suite with AirSync offers push services as well as a secure synchronization between PIM (Personal Information Management) data, a mobile device and the CommuniGate Pro Unified Communications platform. Access to the mobility features can be established via mobile operator networks including 3G and EDGE, and of course at the office or home on WiFi networks.

CommuniGate Pronto! is a web 2.0 client that unifies all forms of communications together with a framework that allows expansion or new applications to snap into the server or UI as modules. Pronto! allows carriers to build modular services e.g. delivering VideoMail, IPTV or Video on Demand (VOD) to subscribers while offering full featured Mobile Unified Communications to the SME market. Modular class of services power e-mail, VoIP, presence, Instant Messaging, Rich Media with HD audio and video with over the air synchronization to the IPhone 3G and other smart phones supporting AirSync. Network operators benefit from additional revenue opportunities by providing a unique SaaS suite to SME subscribers that need powerful mobile Unified Communications while removing the complexities of premise based solutions.
