Mobile Security App Debuts for Smartphones(June 01, 2012)
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) June 01, 2012
Mobile software developer SentrySp Inc has announced delivery of a new smartphone application designed to alert users when their mobile phones are being used to gather personal data.
According to Chris Faiella, executive vice-president of SentrySp, this is a growing and largely unrecognized problem.
"Malware and other stealth software are increasingly being used to tap into the databases of smartphones and track their owner's consumer preferences," says Faiella. "This violates your privacy and can seriously compromise personal and financial security."
Data security issues are typically addressed only months or years after new technologies appear in the marketplace, Faiella notes. Malware developers therefore enjoy a lengthy window of opportunity in which to work undiscovered.
"Your portable communication lifelinemight also be the means by which consumer files on yourself, your list of contacts and the websites you frequent are updated to outside marketers and other entities."
The first sign of a malware infection can be unexplained "hiccups" or overheating when a smartphone is in use, he adds. Smartphone infections may also spread to linked devices such as laptops or tablet computers.
SentrySp created a product called SentrySp InSight, which some may consider a cell phone monitoring software, to make users aware of potential malicious activities occurring on their mobile devices.
The SentrySp InSight® product works by monitoring all operational transmissions from smartphones, identifying those which bear characteristics of unauthorized data transmission, and sending regular reports to the smartphone's owner, according to the firm's website. The user can then take action to eliminate the malware and restore system security.
The company markets versions of the app for both iPhone and Android users.
Based in Miami, Florida, SentrySP Inc provides software applications designed to assist mobile phone users in monitoring and protecting security. For more information on products and services visit the company's website at http://www.SentrySP.com.
